Taking inspiration from various coastlines around the world, this body of work combines the beauty of nature with the beauty of the female expression.
The works explore themes such as inner strength, resilience and preservation. These quiet emotions softly emanate through the portraits by way of subtle expression. Abstract patterns drawn from natural forms of rocks, specifically those found by the sea represent strength and endurance against the forces of nature and time.

This work was created for a Youth Employment Academy in Melbourne and installed as a life size paste up on an interior wall.
Bees are some of the hardest working creatures on the planet, and because of their laborious work ethic, we owe many thanks to this amazing yet often under appreciated insect. Bees are responsible for pollinating about one-sixth of the flowering plant species worldwide and approximately 400 different agricultural types of plant – the source of most of our food involves the hard work of bees.
Bees are therefore a great representation of hard work and of importance – whether recognised or not. They get the job done and are humble.
O'ERDOBEN - THE WILD WITHIN

This body of work is the amalgamation of inspiration drawn from the written work of Clarissa Pinkola Estes, personal experience and the resilience of many female creatures of the animal kingdom.
Pinkola Estes in her book Women Who Run with the Wolves talks about the female psyche by way of folk tales and draws on the inner animal we all possess. This inner animal – the wild within – enables the heroines in these traditional folk tales to emerge victorious on the other side of disaster, danger or despair.
The creative process of this work involves the meticulous and repetitious action of dotting the paper with tiny ink dots, a process which serves as a meditation of sorts, a time to harness the wild within. My technique echoes the patience and persistence required by the female creatures my subjects represent. I use these methods to convey a sense of gentle strength in my subjects who subtly hint at a deeper truth.
